National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Sunday expressed grief over the death of Capt. David Hazut, 21, a Golani Brigade platoon commander killed in combat in southern Lebanon. Ben Gvir extended condolences to the family and called for healing of the wounded.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir issued a statement early Sunday afternoon mourning Capt. David Hazut, the Golani Brigade platoon commander killed in action in southern Lebanon. Ben Gvir said his 'heart breaks' over the loss, sent condolences to the Hazut family and called for healing of the wounded.
The clash that killed Hazut occurred around 02:00 Sunday in the Deir Siryan area of southern Lebanon, when a Hezbollah operative opened fire on a Golani force during a search. The IDF confirmed the encounter and said another soldier was lightly wounded. As The Zioneer reported across five successive updates beginning at 12:38 Jerusalem, the military initially identified the fallen soldier as a Golani trooper before naming the officer by the afternoon — initially as Capt. David Hazut and later with the full spelling Hazutt, from Ashkelon. The IDF has said the terrorist fled and that troops responded with artillery; the search for the operative continues, as The Zioneer reported at 12:58 Jerusalem.
Earlier Sunday, four other Israeli soldiers were killed in separate incidents in southern Lebanon, as The Zioneer reported at 09:57 Jerusalem. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mourned them and vowed to restore security to northern Israel.
