Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa said Thursday it is 'shocked and pained' by the death of its administrative operations coordinator, Master Sgt. (Res.) Basil Sweid, 32, from Peki'in, who was killed during operational activity in Lebanon.
Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa on Thursday afternoon issued a statement expressing shock and grief over the death of Master Sgt. (Res.) Basil Sweid, 32, who served as the hospital's operations coordinator in the administrative management division — a role that brought him into contact with virtually all of the hospital's 6,500 employees, according to the hospital's announcement.
Sweid, a Druze reservist from the northern town of Peki'in, was killed Wednesday night when his refueling truck overturned in southern Lebanon around 23:00, the IDF confirmed Thursday morning. A combat soldier was moderately injured in the incident, and the military is investigating the circumstances. The hospital's public acknowledgment of his civilian role highlights the dual burden carried by Israeli reservists who serve on active fronts while also holding key positions in civilian institutions.
Earlier Thursday, as The Zioneer reported, the IDF had initially described the incident as a vehicle rollover causing one fatality and one moderate injury, without identifying Sweid. By 09:02 Jerusalem, the military cleared his name for publication, and his funeral was set for 17:00 in Peki'in. Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, leader of the Druze community, eulogized Sweid as a hero, noting the community's heavy toll in the ongoing war in Lebanon.
The cause of the rollover remains under investigation. No further details about the operational activity or the circumstances of the accident have been released.
