Accounts linked to Saudi-backed Yemeni forces are circulating videos claiming they have taken control of the Dhubab area, which commands the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and includes the Al-Omari base and Dhubab airfield. The claim remains unverified; the Houthi movement continues to deny any loss of control.
This development remains unverified amid conflicting claims from both sides. On Monday afternoon, accounts linked to Saudi-backed Yemeni forces circulated videos asserting they have taken control of the strategic Dhubab area, which commands the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and includes the Al-Omari military base and Dhubab airfield. The Houthi movement continues to deny the reports, and no independent verification has been obtained.
Earlier today, The Zioneer reported at 13:04 Jerusalem that forces of the Saudi-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) had entered Dhubab airport and seized the nearby Murad area, according to initial reports. At 13:56 Jerusalem, footage attributed to the arrival of Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces at Dhubab airport was published. The Houthi movement has consistently denied any loss of control in the area.
The Dhubab area has been a focal point in the conflict. As The Zioneer previously reported, Houthi forces captured the Al-Omari base and the adjacent Zubayr airport in September, positioning themselves 30 kilometers from Bab el-Mandeb. If the Saudi-backed claims are confirmed, it would mark a significant reversal.
What remains open: The videos and reports have not been independently verified. The Houthi movement maintains that the area remains under its control. No official statement has been released by Saudi or Yemeni authorities.
