The home of Yael Shevach, whose husband Rabbi Raziel Shevach was murdered in a 2018 shooting attack, was completely destroyed in the wildfire that swept through the Samaria community of Havat Gilad, according to community reports. A fundraising campaign has been launched to support her family.
The home of Yael Shevach, widow of Rabbi Raziel Shevach, was completely destroyed in the wildfire that swept through the Samaria community of Havat Gilad on Saturday evening, as reported in community updates. By early Sunday, a fundraising campaign had been launched to support her family and other affected residents.
The Zioneer's earlier reporting on the fire, which began at 15:27 Jerusalem on Saturday, documented the evolving scope of the blaze. Initial reports from Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan estimated 30 homes and businesses destroyed, with a suspected arson. Later, Israel Fire and Rescue Services confirmed 13 homes, a garage, and a lumber warehouse were destroyed, and two firefighters were injured—one moderately, one lightly. Preliminary investigations suggested the fire may have been caused by a cigarette thrown from a passing vehicle.
The Zioneer also reported on the community's response, including residents performing Havdalah after losing their homes, and the deployment of 45 firefighting crews and eight aircraft, with IDF troops assisting. The fire has drawn a large response from firefighting services and the IDF.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with a special investigation team formed jointly with the IDF. The extent of the damage to the Shevach family's home is total, according to community reports.
