Binyahu Melat

Binyahu Melat (also referred to as Binyamin Malet) was a prominent figure in the Israeli settlement movement in Samaria, serving as a member of the emergency response team (Kitat Konenut) at Havat Gilad. At 32 years old, Melat was recognized not only for his security role but also as a dedicated activist for Jewish land rights. He was the founder of the 'Struggle Over Every Dunam' forum, an organization focused on establishing and maintaining a Jewish presence in strategic areas of Judea and Samaria.

On the morning of Friday, July 24, 2026, Melat was accompanying a group of Israeli hikers near the village of Tell and the Gilad road. According to reports from the IDF and eyewitnesses, a Palestinian terrorist approached the group and managed to snatch a weapon from a security coordinator. Melat reportedly jumped to protect the hikers as the attacker opened fire. He was fatally wounded in the encounter. IDF troops arriving at the scene eliminated the gunman and recovered the stolen weapon. The incident occurred during a period of heightened tension in the region, characterized by increased friction between local residents and Palestinian mobs.

Following his death, Melat was eulogized by national figures, including President Isaac Herzog, who praised his bravery and commitment to the defense of the land. The 'Struggle Over Every Dunam' forum announced that in accordance with his legacy, they would immediately begin establishing new settlement nuclei in the areas Melat had planned to develop. His death is viewed by his community as an act of supreme sacrifice in the ongoing effort to ensure the safety and continuity of Jewish life in Samaria. He is survived by his family and a community that regards him as a symbol of national resilience.
