Harel Birenstock
Major Harel Birenstock (34) was an IDF company commander in the 55th Paratroopers Reserve Brigade and a resident of Nokdim who fell in combat during operational activity in southern Lebanon in August 2026.
Major Harel Birenstock was a senior field officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reserve array, serving as a company commander in the 55th Paratroopers Reserve Brigade (Battalion 2855). A resident of the community of Nokdim in Judea and Samaria, Birenstock was a prominent figure in his local community and the grandson of Nehama Birnstock, a well-known resident of Efrat. He is survived by his wife and children.
Birenstock was killed in action on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, during a high-intensity operational mission in the village of Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon. According to military reports, Birenstock and Chief Master Sgt. Tamir Vaknin were killed when an explosive device detonated as their unit entered a building. The incident, which also left four other reserve soldiers severely wounded, occurred during a period of heightened tension following a ceasefire agreement. The IDF characterized the attack as a violation of the ceasefire by Hezbollah operatives remaining in the sector. Following the incident, Israeli forces responded with targeted strikes against terror infrastructure in the area.
