Tabnit (Kafr Tibnit)
Tabnit, also known as Kafr Tibnit, is a village in southern Lebanon that has become a focal point of IDF ground operations in June 2026. Located near the Ali al-Taher ridge overlooking Nabatieh, it sits in a strategically significant corridor of the Lebanese south.
Tabnit (Kafr Tibnit) is a Shia village in the Nabatieh District of southern Lebanon, situated in hilly terrain that commands views toward the city of Nabatieh and the surrounding region. The area has historically been within Hezbollah's zone of influence in the Lebanese south.
The village gained renewed operational significance on 6 June 2026, when Lebanese media reported that the IDF launched a ground attack in the direction of Tabnit and the nearby village of Mifdun. According to those reports, the stated objective was to seize control of the Ali al-Taher ridge, an elevated feature that overlooks Nabatieh and would provide a meaningful tactical advantage to forces operating in the area. The reports originated from Lebanese television and were not independently confirmed by Israeli officials at the time of publication.
Separately, on the same day, the IDF acknowledged striking a vehicle near Tabnit that was moving toward its soldiers in what it described as an active, evacuated combat zone. An initial inquiry indicated that two officers and one soldier from the Lebanese Army were inside the vehicle. The IDF stated that its operations target Hezbollah, not the Lebanese Armed Forces, and that movement in the area requires prior coordination.
The proximity of Tabnit to the Ali al-Taher ridge and to Nabatieh — one of the largest cities in southern Lebanon — makes it a recurring reference point in assessments of IDF operational depth in the Lebanese theater. Control of elevated terrain in this corridor has implications for both force protection and the ability to observe and interdict movement across a wide area.
All ground-operation reports as of 6 June 2026 remain based on Lebanese sources and carry low verified confidence. The IDF had not publicly confirmed a ground offensive toward Tabnit by the time this dossier was compiled.
