The IDF announced on Wednesday evening that two reserve soldiers were killed and four others seriously wounded in the incident. The fallen were identified as Maj. (res.) Harel Birenstock, 34, from Nokdim, and Staff Sgt. (res.) Tamir Vaknin, 33, from Eilat, both serving in the 2855th Battalion, 55th Brigade. The military later confirmed that the explosion occurred inside a booby-trapped Hezbollah house, causing the structure to collapse. In response, the IDF struck Hezbollah weapons warehouses, a command post, and additional terror infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
The incident marked the first Israeli combat fatalities in the sector since the ceasefire with Hezbollah took effect in June. The IDF has said it remains deployed in the security zone in accordance with the agreement.
