From 'Zero Enrichment' to 'Enrichment Forever'

Dr. Guy Bechor’s analysis details how the current diplomatic trajectory contradicts a decade of Trump’s stated red lines. For years, Trump insisted on a "zero enrichment" capability for Tehran. However, Bechor notes that the new interim framework reportedly allows Iran to continue enriching uranium at low levels for civilian purposes. In a June 14 interview with The New York Times, Trump suggested Iran could suspend enrichment for 15–20 years before enriching indefinitely. Bechor concludes this shift represents a move from "zero enrichment" to "enrichment forever."

The Collapse of Maximum Pressure

The analysis further contends that the signature "Maximum Pressure" campaign—defined by severe economic sanctions and the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terror group—has been replaced by what Bechor calls "maximum reward." The lifting of sanctions on oil exports, banking, and shipping effectively provides the Iranian regime with a generous economic lifeline, mirroring the Obama-era approach that Trump once labeled as "naive."

Regional Proxies and Nuclear Infrastructure

Bechor highlights that the agreement lacks requirements to dismantle major nuclear sites like Natanz or Fordow, nor does it address Iran's ballistic missile program. Furthermore, the previous demand for Hezbollah to be disarmed throughout Lebanon has vanished. Instead, the analysis suggests that Iran has gained greater influence over Lebanon while its proxies, including the Houthis and Iraqi militias, receive de facto legitimacy. Bechor argues this sends a message that Washington is no longer standing firmly behind its regional allies, including Israel.

Abandoning the Iranian People

Finally, the analysis points to a reversal in rhetoric regarding the Iranian populace. While Trump previously encouraged Iranians to "take their country back" with promises that "help is on its way," the new agreement contains no commitments regarding the regime's treatment of its citizens. Bechor notes that the deal ignores the killing of over 40,000 Iranians earlier this year, providing support to the regime while leaving the people with "only disappointment."
